New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli has been granted paternity leave from three Tests in Australia. He will return home after the opening Day-Night Test in Adelaide, the BCCI said on Monday.
Kohli had informed the Board about his plans to return home for the birth of his first child.
“At the selection committee meeting held on October 26th, 2020, Mr Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his plans to return to India after the first Test in Adelaide. The BCCI has granted paternity leave to the Indian captain. He will return after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide,” the official mail stated.
The BCCI’s selection committee also made changes to the three squads.
The selectors included Rohit Sharma in the Test squad while resting him from the ODI and T20 squads due to a hamstring injury suffered during the IPL 2020.
“The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same. In consultation with Mr Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the BCCI said.
The BCCI also informed that Ishant Sharma will be added to the Test squad subject to fitness while mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who had allegedly hid his shoulder injury, has been ruled out of the T20 Internationals.
Sanju Samson, who was earlier only included in the T20 squad, has been added to the ODI line-up as an additional keeper.
India will play three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests. The first ODI will be played on November 27th.
