New Delhi: Hosts India will take on Tajikistan in the opening clash the 2019 Hero Intercontinental Cup on July 7, as per the fixtures released on Monday.
India will next face DPR Korea on July 13 followed by Syria on July 16. The top two teams from the round robin stage will qualify for the final that is scheduled on July 18.
According to the latest FIFA rankings released on April 2019, Syria are placed 83rd followed by Tajikistan and DPR Korea, who are at 120 and 121 spots respectively. India currently occupy the 101st position in the rankings.
India are the competition’s defending champions, having beaten Kenya in the final last year. The other two teams that competed last year were New Zealand and Chinese Taipei.
The home team, under new head coach Igor Stimac, will head into the tournament on the back of a 3-1 to Curacao and a 1-0 win against Thailand in the 2019 King’s Cup.
