Maiden Test call-up for Shubman Gill, KL Rahul dropped for SA series

New Delhi: Shubman Gill has been included while KL Rahul has been dropped from India’s 15-man squad for the three-match Test series against South Africa.

The 20-year old batsman from Punjab scored 90 and 5 in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A. In 14 first-class games, Gill has scored 1,443 runs at an average of 72.15, hitting with four centuries.current sports news

The first Test of the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy will be played in Visakhapatnam from October 2, follwed by the second match in Pune from October 10. The final Test is in Ranchi from October 19.

Rahul’s dropping paves the way for Rohit Sharma to take the opening slot in the side.

Pacer Umesh Yadav, who was in the squad for the West Indies tour, was also dropped.

Rohit will captain the Board President’s XI, which will take on the South Africans in a three-day tour match in Vizianagaram from September 26.
