Raider Manjeet received the highest price of Rs. 63 lakh by Puneri Paltan on Day 2 of the Pro Kabaddi League auctions on Tuesday.

Mumbai: Raider Manjeet made waves on the second day of the Pro Kabbadi League (PKL) Season 7 auctions, netting a price of Rs 63 lakh, the highest bid for a Category B player that was put up by Puneri Paltan. The 22-year-old lean and lanky Delhi native had a good outing with the Patna Pirates earlier.

The other Category B player to also steal the limelight, albeit to a lesser extent, was raider K Prapanjan, who joined the Bengal Warriors for Rs 55 lakh while the versatile Mohit Chhillar came in third for the Tamil Thailavas for Rs 45 lakh.

In all, the 12 franchises spent over Rs 50 crore on 200 players (173 Indians and 27 foreigners) over two days to equip themselves adequately for the forthcoming season, a huge jump from the amount expended the previous year, the PKL promoters claimed. A total of 15 ‘Final Bid Match’ options were used by the teams to maintain continuity in their ranks.

The highs were however hit during yesterday’s action when raider Siddharth Desai was sold for Rs 1.45 crore to Telugu Titans and raider Nitin Tomar to Puneri Paltan for Rs 1.20 crore. Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh (Iran), a category C Player, became the highest paid foreigner when he was taken down by the Bengal Warriors for Rs 77.75 lakh.

CEO Mashal Sports and League Commissioner Pro Kabaddi, Anupam Goswami, said: “The end of the Pro Kabaddi Season VII player auction marks yet another remarkable moment for Kabaddi as a sport. The squads look competitive for the upcoming season which will pave the way for an exciting season. The bidding strategies displayed by each Franchise stand testament to the evolution of the sport and the league. The teams look well-balanced and are a mix of young and experienced players. I look forward to Pro Kabaddi Season VII being an exciting event for all our fans, sponsors and teams.”
