Dubai: Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik believes the T10 cricket format is a perfect advertisement to attract new fans to the match.
‘It’s always nice to be a part of something positive in the game. “T10 is a perfect advertisement to bring new audiences to cricket because it is short, exciting and an excellent way to show the best of cricket, especially the new skills that players are constantly bringing,” said Malik.
Malik will compete in the upcoming season of the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament as captain and icon player for defending champion Maratha Arabians.
The versatile player, who has scored more than 11,000 runs in international cricket, says he is looking forward to playing with his longtime Pakistani team-mate Mohammad Hafeez in the upcoming tournament which starts on January 28 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
‘It would be nice to be a teammate with my longtime international colleague Mohammad Hafeez. There are also always new stars to identify, as T10 offers fantastic opportunities and exposure to so many players. “Hopefully the new stars of Maratha Arabians will come,” he said.
The 39-year-old further said his team would like to enjoy their cricket in the T10 tournament.
‘We have a mix of experience and raw talent, so hopefully we can all get together and contribute to the team and see if we can enjoy our cricket and win some matches. You never know in T10. It is an unpredictable format and therefore it is exciting.”
